BIO

Alexander Audet

Autistic spectrum artist exploring the oneiric and liminal, currently residing in the bay area. Primarily working in digital film and CGI I attempt to fold space into a synthetic foil. Inspired by nonlinear and meandering narratives of the likes of David Lynch and Wong Kar Wai, I also draw inspiration from sources as diverse as silent film and symbolist painters, as well as early computer animation and video game art.

Artistic statement

My fascination with movies has always stemmed from my innate ability to conjure precise images while daydreaming or lucid dreaming at night. It was always the way in which the plastics of cinema could bridge the real with the phantasmagorical that gained my attention.

My aim for the spaces to feel deep yet worn down in detail, or likewise with detail that seems overly extravagant. With color I try to aim for a high saturation of muted tones that gives the impression of an ink wash or a worn illustration with textures like graphite particles or lithography. My aim is to escape from the noise and seriousness of digital hyperrealism, without giving into sentimentality for the texture of film grain. My overall desire is to create a world that is digital and painterly, yet hostile to the aesthetics of the accessible and unthreatening.
